Professional Internship Program

The Kentucky Shakespeare Festival's Professional Internship Program offers participants the opportunity to make the transition from their training program to the professional theatre world.

Stipend - The interns receive a $100 stipend per week to help cover expenses while in Louisville, the Festival does not provide housing but locates affordable and clean accommodations prior to the interns arrival.Housing costs run approximately $40.00 per week per person.

The goal of the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival's Intern program is to invite interns to return to the Festival as they mature professionally to undertake significant roles during the summer season. Since 1989, three acting intern alumni have returned to the Festival as resident company members.

Acting Interns are offered the opportunity to play roles in the Shakespeare productions and the Intern production. 70% of the actin intern's time is spent in acting related duties and 30% is spent in non-acting duties. The non-acting duties include:
  1. Functioning as assistant stage managers in rehearsals and during performances
  2. When not involved in rehearsal/performance, the interns are assigned technical duties
  3. Barrel campaign (passing the hat at intermission)
  4. Intermission speeches
